According to the survey, Indonesians still prefers traditional market than modern market.
This survey was held by AC Nielsen on 2006, which covered a sample of 1.385 respondents in four major cities - Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Makassar. In this survey revealed that people tends to visit wet market or mom and pop shops on average 12 times per month, meanwhile the frequency of visits to supermarkets and minimarkets only average three times and five times per months, respectively.
If we concern only in frequency of visiting, the figure could be true. Mean while, according to Asosiasi Pedagang Pasar Traditional DKI Jakarta, their omzet member declining 60% every year.
It indicates that even though people still visit traditional market but they spend less. Because, when they go to Modern Market, buy monthly needs in modern market.
